Welcome to HOTEL 1988 COLONIAL
HOTEL 1988 COLONIAL stands as a modest yet functional accommodation nestled on a hill in Guanajuato, Mexico. With a solid rating of 3.8, this hotel appeals particularly to travelers who prioritize practical comforts over luxury. Its location at Tramo Alameda-preparatoria, Panorámica 9, offers guests sweeping views of the historic city center, including landmarks like Teatro Juárez and Jardín de la Unión, both within a reasonable walking distance of about 15 minutes.
The property is housed in a bright, geometric building that exudes a subtle charm. The terrace is a standout feature, equipped with an outdoor pool and hot tub, perfect for unwinding while taking in the panoramic cityscape. The absence of air conditioning is noticeable yet balanced by the efficiency of cleaning staff and the consistently helpful front desk team. Practical amenities such as free Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfast, free parking, and airport shuttle service enhance the visitor experience, making daily logistics straightforward.
Guests should be aware that the hotel’s setting on a hill means limited accessibility; it is not well-suited for the elderly, disabled, or those with physical limitations. Stairs are a significant barrier here, which aligns with prior reviews emphasizing this consideration. However, those willing to embrace the climb are rewarded with a peaceful retreat away from the city's bustling center, blending convenience with a serene atmosphere.
While HOTEL 1988 COLONIAL does not promise luxury, it accomplishes its purpose with honesty and reliability. The no-nonsense approach, combined with the picturesque surroundings and solid amenities like room service, a restaurant, and a smoke-free environment, offers a balanced experience for families and solo travelers alike. For visitors seeking an authentic Guanajuato stay with a view and a friendly staff, HOTEL 1988 COLONIAL provides commendable value and comfort in a unique setting.

Rooms: Great value. Functional, clean, no insects of any kind. Not a luxury hotel by any means, but serves its purpose. Cleaning staff were very efficient. Service: Great. Front desk staff were always willing to help. Location: A little far from the city center. Reviews regarding accessibility are accurate. Would not recommend to the elderly, disabled, or physically unfit. I always laughed when I saw the "1988 Colonial" branding. I don't feel that ancient jaja Good hotel, great value, wouldn't stay again due to the location unfortunately, but could be good for others.
I believe this hotel deserves higher ratings. I read a review before choosing it, and although the hotel has many negative opinions, I find the location truly appealing. Situated on a hill, it may not be suitable if you have difficulty walking or dislike stairs, but it boasts a fantastic terrace with a pool, jacuzzi, and a beautiful city view. The Wi-Fi is good, breakfasts are decent, and while not extravagant, the hotel staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are very clean and simple. One downside is that January, being the coldest month, resulted in chilly evenings in the rooms, but considering a nighttime temperature of 8 degrees, it seems normal. Overall, I genuinely rate this hotel positively.
